BOS Mtg 8/15 experience

We have been uplifted by the outpouring of support from animal lovers in defense of vulnerable horses as shown by your encouraging words and sharing of the petition, as well as attending the BOS meeting. We had a strong showing in the morning, and many came back for the Public Comment section where six supporters spoke from the heart of the tragedy and offered suggestions. Third District Supervisor and Chair of the Board Chris Coursey made a point of thanking the supporters of this cause and saying the Board shares the anger and dismay but have not had a formal discussion of the issue yet. He relayed that Animal Control has recommended the DA charge the horse owner with Felony Abuse of Animals and that the process is ongoing.

We had some powerful coverage in the press. The Press Democrat published their third article on the topic 8/16; Channel 2 KTVU had us on the 6pm News 8/15; and I heard about it on KCBS 740am from San Francisco. Hopefully our local radio stations also carried it on their news but I didn’t hear it. I will be creating a media page shortly with links to the articles in the PD, the BOS meeting, etc. Please support our media sources!

We will continue to push for a spot on the next BOS meeting but will let you know when we are officially scheduled. In the meantime, we will be connecting individually with Board Members and Administrative officials to keep pressing for specific changes.

Please keep promoting the petition! We need big numbers to keep the momentum.

Thank you! Monica Lukes
